Shelley Sessions was a childhood victim of incestuous abuse at the hands of her father. At the age of sixteen, she finally spoke up. Instead of Bobby Sessions going to prison, Shelley was whisked away in the middle of the night to the Rebekah Home for Girls in Corpus Christi, Texas; a Christian-based institution which was eventually shut down by the state because of the extreme abuse inflicted upon its residents. Upon her release, Shelley realized only she could make Bobby answer for his transgressions and obtained legal representation to file suit for damages. On August 30, 1985, a Navarro County, Texas, jury returned with the largest monetary judgment (at that time) ever awarded in such a case.
